Emotional Wellbeing

Whilst this is a blog about going sugar free, I believe that our emotional well being plays an important part in this. I have been a counsellor for 14 years, and I have also done a variety of self development, and awareness courses these include Mindfulness, Life Coaching, Hypnotherapy, Self Esteem courses among others. Feeling good about yourself , I believe helps you to eat in a healthier way. Equally I believe since I have given up sugar I have been calmer, and less stressed. Removing sugar from my diet has also encouraged me to explore other areas of my life, as I result I have recently made some positive changes.

Sugar for me acted as a block, and once I removed the sugar I began to realise, that there were other things in my life that had a sugar like quality. By that I mean things that I enjoy, or have been dependent on that might not actually be that good for my emotional well being. For me it meant I had to look at , and tighten up on my finances. For others it could be relationships, jobs, smoking, or drinking. The bonus about recognising and removing these blocks is, it leaves room for lots of exciting opportunities to come your way. So I encourage anyone to look at what things in your life are symbolic of sugar, and eating away at you. What things in your life flatter to deceive you? Sometimes it isn’t easy to contemplate these things, but sometimes the toughest lessons and experiences in life, lead to the most exciting and positive changes.

Wishing you well , may you find much health and happiness along your life journey. xxx

UPDATE JANUARY 2017….Since writing this page 11 months ago, this blog has taken off in a way I had never imagined. So I think it is time to give this page a bit of a spring clean!!  Since going sugar free, I have noticed that quitting sugar can massively improve emotional wellbeing. I have noticed the following positive changes:

  • I am less stressed, and anxious about different things.
  • Improved self esteem and self confidence levels.
  • I am putting myself out there more . Seizing new opportunities, and giving them a go!!
  • More relaxed.
  • Generally happier, and feeling better about myself.

Here are just a few ideas of things , which might help improve your emotional wellbeing.

  • Walking. Get outside in the fresh air.
  • Dance around the living room! Yes , turn up the music and dance…in the craziest, silliest way you can.
  • Sing!!!
  • Keep a diary .
  • Draw, or even scribble how you feel.
  • Come up with a list of your life dreams. Or make it fun draw it, or collage it!!
  • Every time you achieve something put a marble in a jar. Or write down your achievement , and put it in a jar. You can do the same with praise, on compliments too.
  • Pray, meditate, or just have some quiet time alone.
  • Talking therapies.
  • Set yourself a challenge.
  • Re decorate, or change things round in your home.
  • Meet knew people.
  • Try a new hobby.
  • Start a blog about something that interests you!!!
  • Be kind to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up. Create the life you want to live, not a life others want you to live!! You know yourself best!!!

I really believe that physical, and emotional wellbeing work together. So if you are looking at giving up sugar, why not introduce some of these ideas to your day. Or if you already do some, why not try some new ones!!
